Vehicle Description
VIN: ZFFGT61A750142824 | 6,001 Miles Indicated | Nero / Black Leather
This is our 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica, finished in Nero over Black leather and showing just 6,001 miles on the odometer. One of only 559 examples produced worldwide, this Ferrari represents an exceptionally limited interpretation of the front-engine V12 grand tourer, combining the performance of the 575M Maranello with an innovative retractable glass roof. Equipped with Ferrari's six-speed F1 automated manual transmission, this example has remained under the care of its current owner since 2014, reflecting an extended period of ownership spanning more than a decade.
The Superamerica name traces its origins to some of Ferrari's most exclusive grand touring automobiles of the 1950s and 1960s, when the designation was reserved for a select series of luxurious, high-performance twelve-cylinder models. Revived in 2005, the name was applied to a limited-production open-top version of the 575M Maranello, continuing Ferrari's tradition of combining powerful front-mounted V12 engines with sophisticated Pininfarina styling and long-distance touring capability.
The defining feature of the 575 Superamerica is its patented Revocromico rotating glass roof, developed using a design by Fioravanti. Constructed with a carbon-fiber frame and electrochromic glass, the roof rotates rearward approximately 180 degrees, transforming the car from an enclosed grand tourer into an open-top automobile in approximately ten seconds. Unlike conventional retractable roof systems, the panel rests above the rear deck without compromising luggage capacity, while the fixed rear window serves as a wind deflector when the roof is open.
The Revocromico roof also incorporates five selectable levels of glass tint, allowing occupants to control the amount of sunlight entering the cabin. This distinctive engineering solution made the Superamerica one of the most technologically ambitious open-top Ferraris of its era and remains a defining characteristic of the model.
Power comes from Ferrari's 5,748cc naturally aspirated V12 engine, producing approximately 540 metric horsepower at 7,250 rpm. This represented an increase over the standard 575M Maranello and contributed to the Superamerica's claimed top speed of approximately 199 mph, making it one of the fastest production convertibles in the world at the time of its introduction. The V12 is paired with Ferrari's six-speed F1 automated manual transmission, providing paddle-operated gear changes while retaining the mechanical character of the marque's traditional transaxle-equipped grand touring cars.
Designed by Pininfarina, the Superamerica retains the long hood, flowing fenders, and carefully balanced proportions of the 575M Maranello. Its distinctive roof configuration adds a unique dimension to the design without compromising the elegant silhouette of Ferrari's traditional front-engine grand touring automobiles.
Finished in Nero over Black leather, this Ferrari presents a particularly understated and cohesive color combination, with the dark exterior complementing the distinctive glass roof. The cabin maintains the driver-focused layout and refined appointments associated with Ferrari's twelve-cylinder grand touring models of the period.
Importantly, the retractable roof mechanism remains operational, allowing this Ferrari to transition between its enclosed and open-top configurations. Some delamination is present within the roof glass, which is noted separately from the operation of the retractable mechanism.
Acquired by its current owner in 2014, this Ferrari has remained in the same private collection for more than a decade. With just 6,001 miles indicated, its limited production, elegant Nero and Black color combination, and distinctive Revocromico roof, this example offers an appealing combination of rarity, engineering innovation, and traditional Ferrari V12 performance.
As one of only 559 Superamericas produced, this 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica represents a significant chapter in Ferrari's modern grand touring history. Combining the performance and refinement of a naturally aspirated twelve-cylinder Ferrari with the versatility of its remarkable rotating roof, this Ferrari remains one of the most distinctive limited-production models of the modern Maranello era.
