Durring the 2008 World Finals in Mugello, Ferrari chose to unveil the new Scuderia Spider 16M in celebration of its 16th victory in the Formula 1 Constructor’s World Championship. Showcasing the latest and best of Ferrari’s mid-rear-engined 8-cylinder technology. Only 499 of these screaming, superstars were built, with about 150 making it here to North America. This truly evocative model is aimed at the most passionate clients, drivers who demand both exclusivity and superb driving pleasure.
With the naturally-aspired 510hp V8 mated to a six-speed F1-Superfast2 transmission the 0 to 60 mph sprint takes only 3.7 seconds and tops out at 195 mph. In 2008 the Scuderia Spider 16M was faster round the Fiorano circuit than any other Prancing Horse open-top road car built to date.
The exclusivity of the interior is underscored by the silver "limited series" plaque just above the air vents at the centre of the dashboard. Carbon fiber and aluminum line the cabin. Instead of carpet there is diamond-plate-style aluminum on the floor, accented by exposed welds.
On back roads, the 16M is a ferocious missile with beautifully weighted with pinpoint-accurate steering. Meanwhile There is nothing graceful, respectful, or restrained about the Ferrari's exhaust note. It is hard to imagine a more exciting way of getting from point A to point B while enjoying the sun, devouring switchbacks and coursing through the hills as this 16M seemingly enjoys being pushed to the limit and driven as deep as possible into mountain hairpins.
