Although the SL 63 has been officially discontinued you still have a chance to get a low mileage example before the prices go through the roof. Steeped in 60 years of tradition and polished to near-perfection, the SL has been for most of its existence an embodiment of success, as well as the de facto baseline for high-end convertibles. Crafted by the in-house performance Jedi at AMG, the new engine is devastatingly effective. twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 that produces, in base-level form, 530 horsepower and great gobs of torque, churning out 590 pound-feet between 2000 and 4500 rpm with no apparent effort. The SL63 has an almost marine-engine quality, with a deep burble at idle that implies positively cavernous cylinders. It's part muscle car, part DTM racer as it growls, pops, and bangs in rhythm on it's way from Zero to 60 mph in 4.2 sec. Despite such muscular performance, it’ll play the composed cruiser, too. Inside the cabin, the SL63 gets a sport steering wheel and a standard Harman-Kardon stereo system, leather upholstery that is exclusive to the AMG version, and even an IWC clock on the dash that's inspired by the watchmaker's classic Ingenieur timepiece. There is a lot of space for two passengers with simple lines throughout. The center stack isn't overly busy and is easy enough to navigate. Materials are of high quality and the front buckets are good for long drives.
